Aston Villa want to add Manchester City’s Omar Marmoush to their Europa League-winning squad.
They face competition from Atletico Madrid, who see the Egyptian attacker as a potential replacement for the seemingly Barcelona-bound Julian Alvarez.
Villa boss Unai Emery is urging his club to think and act big after their European triumph, to mount a Premier League title challenge next season. Marmoush, 27, has emerged as a top target as a versatile forward, who can operate as a centre forward, in the No.10 role and also in a wide position. He has been something of a fringe player at City, and the Daily Star Sunday understands that both Villa and Atletico have inquired about the likelihood of his availability. But City would be looking for a £60 million fee, having paid £69m to secure him from Eintracht Frankfurt a year ago. World Cup-bound Marmoush, meanwhile, is also strongly fancied by Atletico. The Madrid club are fighting to keep former City striker Alvarez, but it is clear that he fancies a move to Barcelona. So Atletico aim to fight it out with Villa if City give the green light to a deal for Marmoush.
