According to reports, Tyrique George is set to leave Stamford Bridge this summer, with Chelsea having tried to offload the academy graduate over the past two transfer windows. The west London club would be willing to listen to any sensible offers that come their way over the next few months.
The forward is also a very attractive proposition for the Blues from an accounting perspective given he is a Cobham product. Academy graduates have little or no fee on the books, meaning his sale would go down as pure profit, helping to ease the pressure of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules. George spent the back end of last season on loan at Everton but the move never really caught fire under David Moyes.
Several sources have attempted to quash rumours that new manager Xabi Alonso has contacted George, or any other member of the squad, to offer reassurances over their role in his plans. That silence has only added to speculation that a number of fringe figures will be encouraged to seek new pastures. George’s deal runs until June 2027 and the club has the option to extend it by a further 12 months.
The 20-year-old is raw talent and should attract admirers after netting three times and providing five assists in 27 first-team appearances for Chelsea. His immediate future is likely to be decided long before the window closes, whether he is part of Alonso’s plans or sold to balance the books.
Chelsea Brace For Summer Exodus As Alonso Plots Squad Rebuild
George is not the only player who faces an uncertain Stamford Bridge future as the Blues prepare for a major clear-out under their new manager. Chelsea finished 10th in the Premier League, missing out on any European competition and are widely expected to trim a squad that has become bloated over recent windows.
Reserve keeper Filip Jörgensen is also said to be pushing for a move with the Denmark international asking to leave in order to find more regular playing time. There have also been links to moves away from the club for defenders such as Axel Disasi and Benoit Badiashile, while several loan players returning this summer still have decisions to be made over their futures.
The Blues are keen to raise money and improve their financial position. Shifting on higher earners could open up wages for Alonso’s own targets, while getting rid of local talent like George is pure profit.
