Manchester City Women have confirmed that Leila Ouahabi and Katie Startup will leave the club this summer ahead of the Women’s FA Cup final.
The announcement comes during a significant period for Manchester City, who recently secured the 2025/26 Women’s Super League title and extended the contract of star striker Khadija “Bunny” Shaw until 2030. With one final still remaining this season, City are already beginning to shape their squad for the future.
Leila Ouahabi to leave Manchester City
Leila Ouahabi will depart Manchester City following the expiration of her contract after four years with the club.
The Spanish international joined City in 2022 and went on to make 105 appearances, becoming an important figure in the team’s defensive line. Primarily operating at left-back, Ouahabi brought experience, composure and consistency during one of the club’s most successful recent periods.
Her final appearance for Manchester City could come in the Women’s FA Cup final on Sunday, May 31, 2026.
During the club’s Women’s Super League title-winning campaign, Ouahabi featured in 15 league matches and helped City maintain one of the strongest defensive records in the division.
Reflecting on her departure, Ouahabi said: “It hasn’t been an easy decision, but I felt it was time to close this chapter, think about myself and make the best decision for my future.
“It’s been four very good years in Manchester, but it’s inevitable to feel sad when you’re leaving a place that feels like your home. I will always keep an eye on City’s results and I will always be just another fan.”
Where Leila Ouahabi will play next season remains to be seen.
Katie Startup Departs this Summer
oalkeeper Katie Startup will also leave Manchester City this summer.
Startup initially joined the club on an emergency loan from Brighton & Hove Albion at the end of the 2023/24 season before later signing a permanent contract.
Although opportunities on the pitch were limited, Startup played an important role within the goalkeeping group and was valued for her professionalism and influence during training sessions and match preparation.
Speaking about her time at the club, Startup said: “The last two years have been the best six-week loan of my life. Thanks for making me a Cityzen, now and forever.”
Manchester City Planning for the Future
While Manchester City prepare for the Women’s FA Cup final, the club has already secured one of its most important pieces of business ahead of next season by extending Bunny Shaw’s contract until 2030.
Keeping Shaw at the club represents a major statement of intent as City continue to compete with Europe’s top sides both domestically and in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
With departures now confirmed and long-term contracts secured, Manchester City’s summer rebuild is already beginning to take shape.
