Gabriel Magalhaes burst into tears after he missed the penalty which lost Arsenal the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain. The Brazilian defender has been one of the Gunners' most important players this season, but he was the fall man in Budapest.
Eberechi Eze was the first to miss for Mikel Arteta's side, when he fired wide after carrying out a complicated stutter run-up. The ex-Crystal Palace forward's miss was saved by David Raya, who made a terrific save from Nuno Mendes in the following spot-kick.
But with the score 5-4 to the Parisians, Gabriel stepped up to take the fifth spot-kick and sent his penalty over the crossbar. It did not take long for tears to start falling from the central defender's eyes.
As PSG players stormed forward to celebrate their second consecutive Champions League victory, Arsenal players immediately looked to console Gabriel. However, one of the first players to support Gabriel was PSG captain Marquinhos.
He sought to comfort his Brazilian national team colleague, who was inconsolable after his penalty sailed over the top of the crossbar. Several Arsenal players and staff also approached Gabriel and gave him a hug or a pat on the back.
