Arsenal are one of five clubs interested in signing Valencia midfielder Javi Guerra, according to reports in Italy.

TMW claim the Gunners, Manchester United, Newcastle, Atletico Madrid and Napoli are all vying for the 23-year-old’s signature.

Guerra is not a fully-fledged Spanish international, and he was omitted from the World Cup squad, unlike Gunners stars Martin Zubimendi and Mikel Merino.

However, his performances for Valencia this season are attracting plenty of interest, and he could be on the move this summer if a team is willing to match his asking price.

How much will Guerra cost?

TMW report that the midfielder will only be sold by Valencia if an offer in the region of €40m (£35m) is lodged.

Guerra played an important role as his club had a strong end to the season to finish in the top half of the La Liga table.

He scored a brace during a 4-3 win over Real Sociedad, and bagged another during a 3-1 victory against Barcelona in their final two league fixtures of the campaign.

Over the last six weeks, he has also contributed assists in the draws against Mallorca and Rayo Vallecano, as well as the win over Girona.

Arsenal are looking for another midfielder

Zubimendi and Declan Rice have had to play more minutes than manager Mikel Arteta would have liked this season.

Brentford captain Christian Norgaard was brought in last summer to increase squad depth, but he has not been trusted to play in important games, and the 32-year-old is expected to leave over the coming weeks.

The likes of Lille’s Ayyoub Bouaddi, Botafogo’s Danilo, Paris Saint-Germain’s Senny Mayulu and Stuttgart’s Chema Andres have all been linked with moves to the Emirates in recent months, and Guerra is the latest name to be added to the list.
