Manchester City Lose Beney for FA Cup Final, But Hemp Is Fit

Manchester City have had an incredible season in all respects, especially after missing out on European football last year.

They have fought their way back on top of English football after a decade and will be hoping to make it a cup double when they fight for the Adobe Women’s FA Cup on Sunday against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Hemp returns in time for Wembley

25-year-old Lioness Hemp has been a crucial part of City’s success this season but was forced off just 28 minutes into their final league game against West Ham United.

In the two weeks since, however, Jeglertz has deemed her fit to play a part in the final, which could be a massive boost for the Citizens.

He said: “She has been back in full training in the last few days. She will be available for Sunday.”

Beney ruled out of the final

There is also some tough news for City fans to hear on the day before their cup final clash, with Swiss teenager Beney confirmed to be out of action.

This could be game changing news, especially considering her impact off the bench at Stamford Bridge just three weeks ago in the semi finals.

Beney came off the bench with the Blues cruising towards a 2-0 win, before the 19-year-old’s youthful and energetic flair gave Chelsea an issue they simply couldn’t handle as she went on to assist goals for both Mary Fowler and Bunny Shaw to send the game to extra-time.

If we go by performances in the last month too, Beney has been impactful.

She contributed another assist just a month ago against tomorrow’s very opponents, despite City ending up on the receiving end of a 3-2 scoreline.

Jeglertz said: “Unfortunately two players picked up injuries. Laura Wienroither and Iman Beney. They are not available for this week or their national teams.”

The head-to-head records is something which historically favours Man City, with the Mancunian’s 12 wins in the last 15 meetings to Brighton’s two.

The future, however, gives the Seagulls a huge glimpse of hope ahead of their Wembley FA Cup final, with the club recently announcing a new standalone ground being built alongside the men’s stadium, displaying the direction of this ambitious club.

Jeglertz’s side might be the current biggest force in England, but the Swede remains adamant that his side will need to tactically perfect if they are to oust the south coast and win their first FA Cup crown since 2020.

He said: “Brighton is a tricky team. They have a lot of tactical changes during the game. It’s a team we need to be on the front foot, so we need to be tactically perfect.

“Last game they scored some goals in moments when we lost patience. That will not happen on Sunday.

“Of course, I’m fully prepared that they will have some tactical things that we haven’t forecasted or seen before but we’re ready for it.”
