In a recent report, journalist Ekrem Konur claimed that Sunderland are in the mix to sign on-loan Liverpool playmaker Harvey Elliott. It has been mentioned that the Black Cats would have to compete with Ipswich Town, Coventry City, Leeds United and RB Leipzig in the race to land the English talent.
Elliott’s Lackluster Loan Spell At Aston Villa This Season
Elliott has endured a tough loan spell at Aston Villa as he has struggled to make himself a regular starter in Unai Emery’s first team. The 23-year-old has scored one goal in nine appearances for the Villans this season across various competitions.
The English playmaker needs to earn more first-team starts if he wants to get his career back on track. Hence, a move to Sunderland could appeal to him this summer as Regis Le Bris has the luxury of offering him regular playing minutes next season.
His current contract at Anfield will run out at the end of next season, which could open the door for the Black Cats to sign him on the cheap later this year.

Will Elliott Be A Good Option For Sunderland?
Elliott can engineer some space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He has got the vision to create some inviting chances in the final third and is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet.
The English sensation can even chip in by scoring and creating a few important goals when he is playing regularly on the field. Elliott is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also operate as a box-to-box midfielder or as a right-sided wide player if told to do so. He is already quite familiar with the Premier League and won’t take much time to adjust to life at the Stadium of Light.
We can expect Elliott to enhance the quality of Sunderland head coach Regis Le Bris’ attack. He is good enough to compete for a regular first-team spot at the Wearside club next season.
At 23, Elliott has his best years ahead of him, which makes him a decent option for the Black Cats to consider in this summer transfer window. Hence, Le Bris would be wise to go all out to bring him on board this off-season.
