PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi says his head coach, Luis Enrique, is very happy in Paris, with some Liverpool fans having put forward the theory that he could be tempted into replacing Arne Slot.

Slot was fired on Saturday, a few hours before Enrique won a second Champions League title in a row with PSG, taking his personal tally in the competition to three.

But Al-Khelaifi is confident that Enrique will not feel that his time with PSG is done, even though he has seemingly won as much as he can win with the Ligue 1 side, putting together the best team in the world.

"He's very, very special," Al-Khelaifi said on TNT Sports. "As a coach, human being, and as a person, he is fantastic. He's the best coach in the world. He has done amazing with the team.

"With a young team, you know the story. I would also like to thank the players of PSG. This is also for them. They all gave to this project.

"He's the best coach. I cannot answer the question (about what the future holds for Enrique), but I'm really confident, and it's all about the project. And he is the best one for the project."

Liverpool has already begun the hunt for a replacement for Slot, with Andoni Iraola emerging as a leading contender. The Spaniard has just left Bournemouth, who he helped to qualify for the Europa League.

"We would like to take this opportunity to place on record our appreciation for Arne, who will always hold a special place in the history of this football club as the coach who delivered Liverpool’s 20th league title," a Liverpool statement read.

"That accomplishment — made all the more remarkable as it arrived in his very first season in charge — was built on outstanding coaching and leadership every single day.

"He also helped guide the club through one of the most difficult periods imaginable following the loss of Diogo Jota. The compassion and humanity he showed throughout that time said a great deal about him as a person.

Liverpool FC have launched their new home kit for the 2026/27, inspired by iconic adidas strip worn during the club's 1989/90 title-winning campaign.

"As such, we can only wish Arne well in the next stage of his coaching career, with our expectation being that he will continue to be successful. We do so in the knowledge that his Liverpool legacy is intact and will become yet more meaningful in the years and decades to come.

"Nevertheless, the conclusion we have come to is built on a belief that the team’s trajectory is best addressed through a change of direction.

"That does not diminish the work Arne has done here, or the respect we have for him. Nor is it a reflection of his talents. Rather, it is indicative of the need for a different approach.

"Arne leaves with our gratitude, with a Premier League title to his name, and with the knowledge that he and his family will always be welcomed back at Anfield."

Liverpool.com says: Enrique would be the dream candidate and it does seem likely that he would want to experience the Premier League at some point. The Reds would be an appealing destination if he wants to come to England, but he might not feel that he is done in Paris just yet.
