Former Liverpool player Danny Murphy suggested he would scrutinise Luis Enrique's demeanour for any indication he might be leaving Paris Saint-Germain. Enrique, 56, secured his second successive Champions League title with the French giants.

They def eated Arsenal in a dramatic penalty shootout after a 1-1 stalemate in regular time. Prior to kick-off in Budapest, the dismissal of Arne Slot was confirmed.

Enrique has been touted as a potential Anfield arrival previously, and with his Parc des Princes deal running until summer 2027, Murphy felt there was a chance the Spaniard could make the switch to Liverpool. His hunch was so powerful, he formulated a theory regarding Enrique's conduct.

Ahead of the fixture, Murphy revealed he would observe whether Enrique displayed emotion, regardless of the outcome, claiming it would signal his departure from PSG. "Part of me still thinks [Luis] Enrique, [Liverpool] might be able to nick him from PSG, especially if they beat Arsenal," Murphy said.

"I'm going to watch his mannerisms after the game tonight. I am going to watch to see after the game if there are any tears. If he cries, he's coming to Anfield."

Regrettably for Murphy and for any Liverpool supporters who embraced the theory, nothing of the sort occurred. Instead, Enrique was spotted racing around the Puskas Arena, thrusting his arms in jubilation.

There were no tears shed, and the smile remained firmly on his face. In his post-match interview, Enrique even suggested he is intent on revitalising his squad to pave the way for even greater European success.

Following the match, the former Barcelona boss said: "It's a normal situation when you have a lot of quality players. But, we need to renew the squad.

"Because, everyone has their position but we need to play for the position, get new players and solve the things that you normally have to do."

Currently, Andoni Iraola seems to be the frontrunner to take charge at Anfield this summer. The Spaniard is available after departing Bournemouth at the conclusion of the season, having steered them to the Europa League.

Liverpool may need to compete with the likes of Crystal Palace, AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen for his services, as they are all thought to be keen on the former Rayo Vallecano boss.

Other managers linked with the position also include Sebastian Hoeness of Stuttgart and Pierre Sage of French giants Lens.
