The big news at Liverpool today is that Arne Slot is leaving. The big news yesterday was that Ibrahima Konate would not be signing a new contract.

The central defender looked very close to a new deal at Anfield, and had pretty much said so himself. But since then, things have broken down. According to James Pearce of the Athletic, that’s because of the Frenchman’s salary demands.

After a poor season, the 27 year old was simply asking for too much. So should Chelsea be the ones to pay him? Or should they follow Liverpool’s lead?

Chelsea face tough Konate dilemma

It’s a tough question to answer. On the one hand, he offered everything they want – a tall, experienced, physical central defender with Premier League experience, available on a free transfer.

But if the team who have had him on the books for five years have decided he’s not worth the money, why should we doubt them? We suspect it’s going to be a debate that rages back and forth between our five sporting directors in the weeks to come.
