Barcelona in talks to sign Darwin Nunez

Barcelona have just become La Liga champions and they seem incredibly keen this summer to build on that dominance as quickly as possible.

They have already wrapped up the signing of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United for a reported £69.3million and have explored the possibility of signing Julian Alvarez from Atletico Madrid.

Barcelona are now back within the framework of Financial Fair Play and the speed in which they announced the signing of Anthony Gordon is a clear demonstration of the club falling back into economic stability.

For two seasons, Hansi Flick has delivered silverware at the club despite not being able to get the signings he desires and he is now being backed with the funds to do that and Darwin Nunez’s name has been brought up at the club.

Mundo Deportivo have reported that the Uruguayan’s name was brought up during conversations to bring Al-Hilal defender Joao Cancelo back to the club in January of this year.

However, the report did not make it clear whether Barcelona asked about the situation of the player or Al-Hilal offered the player to them.

Darwin Nunez’s time in Saudi Arabia hasn’t been an easy one and he is now seeking a way out of the club.

He was signed last summer as a marquee signing for the side but was then excluded from the Al-Hilal’s Saudi Pro League squad following the arrival of Karim Benzema in December 2025.

There were reports that the player and the club had agreed to mutually terminate Darwin Nunez’s contract but there has been no official statement from the club yet.

Darwin Nunez made 143 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 40 goals and providing 22 assists. He was often criticised for his erraticness in front of goal but his tenacity and work-rate makes him a desirable asset for many football clubs.

His move to Al-Hilal has been a stumbling block and it will be interesting to see which club he does go to this summer in an attempt to re-find his feet.
