Liverpool showed strong interest in Anthony Gordon before he communciated that his dream club was Barcelona.

He becomes the Catalans first signing of the window and many more are rumoured to follow after Barcelona fall back within the Financial Fair Play framework for the first time in years.

For Newcastle United, they have lost a winger of real quality and will need to find a replacement for him and that has already begun with interest shown in a former Liverpool target.

According to Get French Football News, there is interest from Newcastle United in Olympique Lyonnais’ Malick Fofana who was linked to Liverpool on several occasions last summer.

The report states: “Lille OSC’s Matias Fernandez-Pardo is a target for the Tyneside club. However, the forward is attracting high-level interest from elsewhere. He is of interest to Manchester United and Manchester City, as well as Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona.”

“There is also interest in Olympique Lyonnais’ Malick Fofana, who has just endured an injury-hit season. As well as both featuring on Newcastle United’s shortlist, Fofana and Fernandez-Pardo will be competing for a place in the Belgium starting XI at this summer’s FIFA World Cup.”

The rest of the shortlist consists of Ez Abde from Real Betis and Victor Munoz from Osasuna.
