Paris Saint-Germain boss Luis Enrique has urged the club to back him in the transfer market this summer following their penalty shootout victory over Arsenal in the Champions League final on Saturday evening.

The Ligue 1 giants were held to a 1-1 draw by Mikel Arteta’s side in normal time and eventually claimed a second consecutive Champions League trophy via a 4-3 win on penalties, with Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes missing the decisive spot-kick.

PSG only signed two new players during the 2025 summer transfer window - Ilya Zabarnyi and Lucas Chevalier - and neither of them were picked in the starting XI by Enrique on Saturday, with the Spaniard selecting virtually the same team as against Inter Milan 12 months ago, with the exception of goalkeeper Matvey Safonov.

After limited spending last summer, the Parisians head coach wants to be backed in the transfer market before the 2026-27 campaign kicks off in August as he looks to guide the club to three consecutive Champions League titles.

Speaking after his side’s victory over Arsenal, Enrique told TNT Sports" href="https://www.tntsports.co.uk/football/champions-league/2025-2026/luis-enrique-psg-renew-squad-transfers-arsenal-final-warning-steven-gerrard-nasser-al-khelaifi_sto23304986/story.shtml" target="_blank">TNT Sports: “It’s a normal situation when you have a lot of quality players, but we need to renew the squad, because now we have to play for the position and get new players.

“These are the things you need to do when you're a team like Paris Saint-Germain.”

PSG have been linked with a host of players ahead of the 2026 summer transfer window, including RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande and Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez. However, the former is regarded as Liverpool’s top target to replace Mohamed Salah, while the latter is desperate to join Barcelona.

Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez is also on PSG’s transfer radar and they could intensify their pursuit of his signature following Enrique’s plea.

Enzo Fernandez to PSG?

It has been widely reported that Fernandez wants to leave Chelsea this summer" href="https://www.footballtransfers.com/en/transfer-news/uk-premier-league/2026/05/chelsea-transfer-news-enzo-fernandez-real-madrid-talks-opened" target="_blank">It has been widely reported that Fernandez wants to leave Chelsea this summer, following their failure to qualify for any European competition this season, and it’s understood that Real Madrid is his dream destination.

However, PSG are also keeping tabs on his situation at Stamford Bridge and a move for the Argentina international could take place if Enrique endorses the signing.

Fernandez has scored 24 goals and provided 24 assists across the last two seasons for Chelsea, and he would add an extra dimension to PSG’s fearsome midfield trio of Fabian Ruiz, Joao Neves and Vitinha - who won the Man of the Match award on Saturday evening.

Real Madrid are believed to be his most likely suitors, but PSG could hijack Los Blancos’ proposed move and provide a new threat to Chelsea, who would like to keep Fernandez if a suitable offer doesn’t arrive.
