Arne Slot’s dismissal from Liverpool came at a time that was unexpected.
Despite a hugely disappointing title defence that culminated in a fifth-place finish, the messages coming out of Anfield were that the hierarchies of the club intended to stick with Arne Slot even though the season didn’t go the way they expected.

Liverpool changed their tune after a season review and felt it was in the best interest for both parties to part ways.
Arne Slot departs as a Premier League title winning manager, and the Liverpool players took time for the dust to settle for addressing his exit.
More than twenty-four hours after the news first broke, Virgil van Dijk was the first player to publish a message to the Dutchman via his social media channels.
Posting to his Instagram story, the Liverpool captain wrote: “We’ll never forget winning the Premier League in our first season together. Thank you, trainer, and best of luck to you and your family for the future.”
With Virgil van Dijk the first to give his thoughts, other players have begun to say their piece.
Jeremie Frimpong offered a short reaction: “Thank you for everything coach, all the best for the future!”
Hugo Ekitike, who was a big money signing last summer as part of Liverpool’s record-breaking spending spree, said: “Thank you for everything you taught me and the time you gave me, both on and off the pitch. I wish you all the very best coach.”
Ryan Gravenberch, who saw a remarkable rise to form during Arne Slot’s debut season, after the head coach re-defined his role in the team, said: “Thank you for everything, coach! Lifting the Premier League trophy together was an incredible achievement and a moment I’ll never forget. Wishing you all the best for the future!”
Despite the ups and downs of the season, it is refreshing to see that there are players within the squad still showing support to Slot for what they achieved together during his debut season.
