Manchester United could be in line for a welcome financial windfall following the latest developments surrounding Alejandro Garnacho's future at Chelsea.

United sold Garnacho to the London club late last summer in a deal valued at £40million, after the Argentina international made clear his wish to depart Old Trafford.

Since his move, Garnacho has managed just eight goals for Chelsea during his stint at Stamford Bridge, with only one of those coming in the Premier League, leaving his future in the capital hanging in the balance after a disappointing debut campaign.

As a result, speculation continues to mount over what lies ahead for Garnacho as the summer transfer window edges closer.

According to The Sun, Chelsea are now willing to sanction Garnacho's departure on a permanent basis this summer, just 12 months after he swapped United for Stamford Bridge.

Garnacho was already facing an uncertain outlook this summer with Chelsea operating under new management, with Xabi Alonso taking charge on a permanent basis following Liam Rosenior's exit back in April.

A separate report from journalist Simon Phillips has also suggested that Chelsea would be looking to earn £40million from the sale of Garnacho this summer, though no specific clubs have been mentioned as potential suitors for the former United winger.

United will be keeping a close eye on how Garnacho's situation unfolds, given they stand to receive a financial boost should the forward move on from Chelsea this summer.

As part of the £40million agreement United struck with Chelsea last year, a 10 per cent sell-on clause was written into the deal.

As a result, United would pocket a portion of whatever fee Chelsea command for Garnacho's signature this summer, should a transfer for the Argentina international be finalised.

Should Chelsea successfully sell Garnacho for the reported £40million asking price, United could find themselves banking an additional £4million this summer.

Former Chelsea star Wayne Bridge recently weighed in on Garnacho's spell at Stamford Bridge and offered some words of advice to the ex-United forward.

"Sometimes I look at players with that much potential and wonder if they just need an old head or a father figure to work on the mental side,” Bridge told football.london earlier this month.

"I’m not saying that is definitely what he needs, but Glenn Hoddle did so much for me when I was young. He believed in me and had me doing visualisation techniques and meditation.

"At an event once, someone asked him who the best player he’d trained was, and he said that while I didn't believe how good I was, he got players around me to help me believe in myself.

"I don’t know if Garnacho needs a father figure to ensure he keeps his head straight and does the right things, but there is so much potential there. I think players sometimes just need guidance to ensure they keep heading in the right direction."
