Berta means business: Arsenal now emerge as serious contenders to sign "unbelievable" £100m star

Arsenal are serious contenders to sign an "unbelievable" Premier League star, who is now expected to leave his club this summer.

Gunners eyeing statement signing after Champions League final defeat

The Gunners got over the line in the Premier League title race with Manchester City, but they were unable to add the Champions League trophy to their collection, with Paris Saint-Germain emerging victorious after sealing a 4-3 victory on penalties.

However, Declan Rice has made it clear the loss will be used as motivation heading into next season, saying: “Since October it has been three games a week so that is why I am so proud of these boys, of these players, of how far we have come, to win a Premier League to get over the line was incredible, so, so special, we fully deserved it.

“But we are going to use this moment to add fuel to the upcoming seasons. Speaking to the players, obviously the manager, there is no reason why we are stopping here. Next season we are going to go even stronger and we are going to be ready again so it is exciting times for this club.”

As pointed out by Rice, Mikel Arteta's side have had to deal with a very congested fixture list for large parts of the campaign, which means having a deeper squad could serve the Spaniard well, as he looks to compete on all fronts again next season.

Arsenal eyeing statement signing of "unbelievable" star

Andrea Berta is wasting no time, according to Ben Jacobs, in a report for Give Me Sport, with the journalist stating Arsenal are now serious contenders to sign Morgan Rogers, who is expected to leave Aston Villa this summer.

Jacobs added: "This isn't about Rogers pushing for a move away, he loves Unai Emery and Villa have Champions League football but they still have some financial hurdles to jump over even with that extra money.

"Offers in excess of £80million will be engaged with. Interested clubs feel around £80million whereas Villa sources I speak to feel like they get in a room at £80million, but maybe £90million and even £100million might be the number because we're in an inflated market."

Football agent Hesham Bilal-Hafiz is a strong admirer of the England international, lauding him as "unbelievable technically", and the 23-year-old played a major role in Villa winning the Europa League, picking up three goals and five assists in 15 matches.

Rogers' versatility would also be a huge bonus for Arteta, with the former Middlesbrough man capable of playing on both wings and in the number 10 role.
