Major update as"negotiations have already begun"over£86m new signing

Liverpool are negotiating personal terms with RB Leipzig forward Yan Diomande, according to reports, as FSG begin a new era after parting ways with Arne Slot.

In a joint statement by the Liverpool owners, the decision to sack Slot after the 2025-26 season was made public.

A claim made by The Telegraph’s Dominic King reveals that sporting director Richard Hughes was heavily involved in the decision to release slot. King reports: “Richard Hughes, the man who made the decision to end Slot’s tenure, was at Anfield for recent games against Chelsea and Brentford and was left in no doubt about the depth of feeling.”

Liverpool must now replace Slot, with Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola reportedly the man set to take charge at Anfield.

Beyond the appointment of a new manager, there will be more change this summer with several major signings needed and planned.

Liverpool make progress as personal terms talks take place with agents of Yan Diomande

PSG, who were crowned Champions of Europe for the second season in a row, are reportedly Liverpool’s biggest competition for the signature of the Ivorian.

According to Spanish news outlet SPORT, Liverpool are in talks with Diomande, but RB Leipzig are proving tough to negotiate with. The report states that “the German club is refusing to negotiate and is insisting on a minimum price of €100 million. That will be the starting point for any talks.”

Liverpool and PSG ‘are among the candidates vying for the chance to sign Diomande, although there remains a strong chance that the 19-year-old stays at Leipzig for another year, with the Bundesliga offering a higher salary as well as the insertion of a release clause lower than the €100m (£86m) being cited as this summer’s asking price.

Specifically regarding Liverpool’s interest, SPORT journalist Jonathan Moreno reports: “At Anfield, negotiations have already begun with the player’s agents, who have expressed their willingness to join the club in northwest England. Liverpool are currently ahead in the race, however, PSG’s offer cannot yet be ruled out.”

After a season that saw Diomande score 13 goals and provide 10 assists for teammates, it’s no surprise that European heavy hitters like Liverpool and PSG are so desperate to sign him.

Liverpool need to replace Luis Diaz after failing to do so last summer, while losing Mohamed Salah on a free transfer this year is going to leave a lasting effect. Diomande is by no means a messiah coming to solve all of Liverpool’s issues, but it’s clear that he will be one of the leading attackers in Europe in the years to come.
