Liverpool coach Ruben Peeters has issued a statement confirming that he will be leaving the club, with the update coming after the departure of Arne Slot. The Reds announced on Saturday that they had parted company with Slot with immediate effect, and had already begun their search to appoint a successor.
Peeters was appointed as Liverpool’s lead physical performance coach in 2024 when Slot made the move from Feyenoord, and has spent the last two years as part of the Dutchman’s backroom staff.
In an emotional message posted on LinkedIn, Peeters offered his appreciation to Liverpool as he confirmed that he would be leaving Anfield this summer. “After two unforgettable seasons at Liverpool FC, it is time to say goodbye,” Peeters wrote.
“Winning the Premier League together will always be a special memory and the ultimate highlight of this incredible journey.
“But above all, I’m grateful for two years of going to work every day with such enthusiasm, surrounded by amazing colleagues and great people.
“Thank you to everyone at Liverpool FC for the trust, support and unforgettable moments.”
Liverpool’s search for a replacement for Slot is already underway, with former Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola listed as the early favourite for the job.
Liverpool are widely expected to hold talks with Iraola about the vacancy over the next few days.
Meanwhile, Peeters’ statement also comes after Liverpool announced that Ibrahima Konate would be leaving the club this summer.
Konate’s contract with the Reds expires at the end of June, meaning the France international defender will leave Merseyside as a free agent this summer.
“Liverpool FC can confirm Ibrahima Konate is set to leave the club upon the expiry of his contract this summer,” the statement from Liverpool read.
“The centre-back will depart Anfield at the end of June, bringing his five-year spell with the Reds to a conclusion.
“Signed from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2021, Konate made a total of 183 appearances and scored seven goals.
“The France international will leave with a Premier League winner’s medal for his role in Liverpool’s 2024-25 title triumph, as well as successes in the FA Cup, Carabao Cup (twice) and FA Community Shield.
“Konate will depart with our gratitude and appreciation for the contribution he made and everyone at the club wishes him the best for the future.”
