Ibrahima Konate joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2021 in a £35 million deal. Since arriving at Anfield, he has made 183 appearances, playing a key role in the club’s Premier League triumph in 2024/25, as well as their FA Cup and EFL Cup successes in 2022:
Taking to Instagram, the Frenchman has communicated and shared his thoughts with the Liverpool fanbase: “Five years ago, I arrived as a young player with big dreams.”
“Today, I leave with memories that will stay with me for the rest of my life.”
“Representing this club has been an honour.”
“We’ve shared incredible moments together… highs and lows, trophies, challenges, lifelong friendships, and heartbreaking moments that will stay with us forever, none more painful than losing our brother Diogo.”
“Losing my father this year was one of the hardest periods of my life, but even through hardship, my commitment to this club never changed.”
“During the toughest moments, I gave everything I had for this badge.”
“To my teammates, coaches, staff and everyone behind the scenes, thank you for helping me grow every single day.”
“And to the supporters… thank you for your love, your energy, and your incredible support.”
“Anfield is truly a special place, and playing in front of you was something I never took for granted.”
His partnership with Virgil van Dijk was second to none while both were firing on all cyclinders, and his blend of physicality, recovery pace and calmness in possession quickly made him a fan favourite at Anfield.
There is sure to be no shortage of interest in the 27-year-old, with several top European clubs already monitoring his situation ahead of his departure as a free agent, but for now his message is aimed squarely at the Liverpool supporters who backed him throughout his stay.
The likes of Bayern Munich, Chelsea, and PSG are all believed to be interested in the Frenchman heading into the summer.
