“The centre-back will depart Anfield at the end of June, bringing his five-year spell with the Reds to a conclusion.”
“Signed from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2021, Konate made a total of 183 appearances and scored seven goals.”
“The France international will leave with a Premier League winner’s medal for his role in Liverpool’s 2024-25 title triumph, as well as successes in the FA Cup, Carabao Cup (twice) and FA Community Shield.”
“Konate will depart with our gratitude and appreciation for the contribution he made and everyone at the club wishes him the best for the future.”
Reports throughout recent months had indicated that the French international would depart upon the expiration of his contract on June 30, and the club has now formally announced his exit.
Konate arrived on Merseyside from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2021 after Liverpool activated his £35 million release clause.
Signed as one of Europe’s most highly rated young centre-backs, the Frenchman quickly demonstrated why the club had moved decisively to secure his services.
Across five seasons at Anfield, Konate made 183 appearances in all competitions, scoring important goals and becoming a crucial component of Liverpool’s defensive structure.
His time at the club was highlighted by significant silverware, including the Premier League title in 2024/25, as well as FA Cup and EFL Cup triumphs during the 2021/22 campaign.
At his best, Konate formed one of the most dominant defensive partnerships in European football alongside Virgil van Dijk.
The combination of Van Dijk’s leadership and positional excellence with Konate athleticism, recovery speed, aerial dominance, and composure on the ball gave Liverpool a defensive foundation capable of competing with the very best teams on the continent.
Supporters quickly took to the Frenchman, whose aggressive style of defending and commitment to the badge made him a popular figure among the Anfield faithful.
While injuries occasionally interrupted his momentum, few defenders in the league could match his blend of physical power and technical quality when fully fit.
His departure represents another significant change for Liverpool during a summer that is already shaping up to be one of transition.
With several experienced players also moving on, replacing both his quality and presence in the dressing room will be a major task for the club’s recruitment team.
Unsurprisingly, there is expected to be considerable interest in Konate services.
As a free agent entering the prime years of his career, the 27-year-old is an attractive proposition for many of Europe’s elite clubs.
Among those reportedly monitoring the situation are Bayern Munich, Chelsea, and Paris Saint-Germain, all of whom are believed to be exploring a potential move ahead of the new season.
For now, however, the focus remains on his farewell to Liverpool and the supporters who backed him throughout his journey at Anfield.
His next destination remains uncertain, but there is little doubt that one of Europe’s most sought-after defenders will not be short of options as he prepares for the next chapter of his career.
