Liverpool find themselves in the unusual situation of regrouping following the dismissal of Arne Slot. The Reds had axed just five managers before Slot since the start of the 21st century.
The inquest is now under way, with supporters and pundits alike offering their views on how Slot ended up without a job merely a year after securing the Premier League title.
Today's Liverpool latest sees a former Red share his perspective on the circumstances. Meanwhile, a decision has been reached regarding another star linked with an Anfield exit.

Jamie Carragher voices concerns
Reds legend Carragher was surprised by Slot's dismissal and considers the responsibility for the entire episode lies with multiple parties. He told Sky Sports: "I was torn on Arne Slot, I must say, I would've backed any decision and I can see both sides of the argument but an elite football manager finds a way to fix Liverpool to make it better but he wasn't helped with recruitment, have anyone of them done well?
"You could put that on the manager, does he need to get more out of them? Should them players have done more? Yes. Should the people above him give him a better squad? Yes. There's a lot of people to point fingers at."
He added: "There is no doubt that he lost supporters, I think that was harsh on the back of what happened 12 months before. Supporter base has a huge influence, when you talk about player power, that can't have helped with Salah. I'm not happy with that, I don't ever want Liverpool Football Club to have player power to speak out about a manager who won the Premier League.

"What manager does it help when a star player comes out publicly criticising the manager, that shouldn't happen no matter the situation. Maybe it's forced the clubs' hand. I don't know what goes on in the dressing room, I didn't like Mo Salah's post, I didn't think he should come out publicly.
"Who does get on with every manager? Players have lots of different managers but you don't go out on social media and do it publicly or put clapping emojis when someones having a go at your own manager. That probably tells you what's going on in the Liverpool dressing room right now."
Carragher went on to state that whoever takes charge at Anfield next will be expected to deliver league title glory, but expressed concern that navigating an increasingly congested fixture schedule may not suit several of the names reportedly being considered for the position.
He continued: "My worry is can you play at that intensity when you're playing every three days? Whenever you bring in a manager for a top club at England, can they win the league? Liverpool had a manager who won the league, that's why I was always torn, whoever comes in is a risk but Liverpool did have a manager who won the league."
Veteran defender set to stay
According to The Athletic, Joe Gomez will be remaining at Anfield to fulfil the final year of his contract, meaning he will depart next summer rather than this one. The long-serving defender joined the Reds in 2015 but attracted interest from AC Milan last summer and Newcastle United in 2024.
The centre-back came close to departing on transfer deadline day last year but remained at the club after a proposed deal for Marc Guehi, then of Crystal Palace, collapsed. The versatile 29-year-old managed just six Premier League starts this campaign, however.
When quizzed about his future at the end of the season, Gomez said: "I don't know is the honest answer. I've only got a year left on my contract, so I don't know. Whatever's meant to be will be, but I'm so grateful to have had this time here at this club."

The news will come as something of a relief to Reds supporters following the announcement that Ibrahima Konate will be departing Liverpool this summer. The 27-year-old centre-back will join Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson in leaving Anfield after failing to reach agreement on a new contract.
Konate proved crucial to Liverpool's title success in 2024/2025 and also secured two League Cups and the FA Cup during his spell at Anfield. The new manager will already be receiving two boosts, though.
Liverpool can expect the arrival of France Under-21 international Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes this summer, following his £60million signing in January. Giovanni Leoni, whose debut campaign at Anfield was cut short by an ACL injury, is also anticipated to feature prominently once he returns to fitness.
