These days, transfers are not simply an initial fee. They include add-ons and clauses galore, and it is something that could see Chelsea forced to send Man United a £4m cheque this summer.
They are business deals that do not see clubs stop at sending one lump sum to another club. These are transactions that can take years at a time to complete, and add-ons might not end up being fulfilled.
DISCUSS: Jarrod Bowen is a better signing than Rafael Leao…
Chelsea have been linked with both this summer.
This summer, more of the same is expected. Chelsea are set to conduct a mini fire sale of players with Xabi Alonso’s side no longer in European football. The Blues will have to cash in on many fringe players.
Chelsea have 10 senior centre-backs on the books, and the arrival of Geovany Quenda will take the total of wingers to six, including Jesse Derry. Clearly, these numbers are too big and players will be offloaded.
Alejandro Garnacho sale will see Chelsea have to pay Man United
One player that may be told to find a new club is Alejandro Garnacho. The Argentine has struggled since joining the Blues from Man United for £40m last summer, often on the receiving end of boos from fans.
His body language and his lack of work rate would be bearable if he was scoring goals regularly, but he has failed to do that. Reports say Garnacho is set to be sold this summer, with Chelsea requesting £40m.

It feels unlikely that Chelsea will be able to rake in the fee they spent to sign Garnacho. But according to the Manchester Evening News, Man United have a 10% sell-on clause in their deal to sell Garnacho.
If Chelsea do manage to rake in £40m for his services, then they will have to write a cheque for £4m and send it to Old Trafford. Given the long-term contract, it feels much more likely that Chelsea loan him out.
Paul Scholes names the club Alejandro Garnacho should join
Those of a Man United persuasion know all about Garnacho, and the majority were delighted when the Blues decided to splash £40m on the winger. Despite his obvious talent, his attitude is a question mark.

Speaking in the last few weeks on his podcast, Paul Scholes is fully aware of everything that surrounds Garnacho. Scholes thinks a move to Atletico Madrid would suit Garnacho, under manager Diego Simeone.
It feels like a match made in heaven. An aggressive, tenacious Argentine managed by an aggressive, tenacious Argentine. Simeone might have the no-nonsense approach that gets the best out of Garnacho.
