Chelsea are moving closer to completing what could become their first major piece of summer business after reports emerged that goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen is set to leave Stamford Bridge following talks over his future.
The Denmark international has informed CHELSEA that he wants to secure regular first-team football elsewhere, with multiple reports claiming the club are now prepared to sanction his departure after previously blocking attempts to leave during the January transfer window.
Jorgensen joined Chelsea from Villarreal in 2024 in a deal worth around £21 million and arrived with expectations of challenging for the number one role. However, he has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter and spent much of the 2025-26 campaign behind Robert Sanchez in the goalkeeping hierarchy.
According to reports, the 24-year-old recently held face-to-face discussions with Chelsea’s head of global goalkeeping, Ben Roberts, during which he made clear his desire to leave in search of consistent playing opportunities. Chelsea are understood to be more open to a sale this summer, particularly as they prepare for a squad reshuffle under new head coach Xabi Alonso.
The development is expected to have significant implications for Chelsea’s goalkeeping department. The club have already been assessing their options ahead of the new season, and Jorgensen’s departure would create space for highly rated Belgian goalkeeper Mike Penders to step into the senior squad. Penders impressed during a loan spell at Strasbourg and is viewed internally as one of the club’s most promising young talents.
While CHELSEA have yet to officially announce any transfer agreements, reports suggest they have effectively approved Jorgensen’s exit and are prepared to listen to suitable offers. Porto, Genoa and Besiktas were all credited with interest in the goalkeeper earlier this year, while additional clubs are expected to enter the race as the transfer window progresses.
Jorgensen’s difficult season contributed to growing uncertainty over his future. Despite receiving opportunities in cup competitions and selected league matches, the goalkeeper struggled to convince he was ready to become Chelsea’s long-term first choice. A series of inconsistent displays, including a heavily criticised performance against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League knockout stages, further damaged his prospects.
The goalkeeper situation remains one of several areas CHELSEA are expected to address this summer as Alonso begins work on reshaping the squad. The Spaniard recently took charge amid expectations of a major rebuild following another disappointing campaign, with both arrivals and departures anticipated over the coming months.
For Chelsea’s hierarchy, allowing Jorgensen to leave could represent a practical solution for all parties. The player would gain the opportunity to pursue regular football, while the club could streamline its goalkeeping options and accelerate the integration of younger prospects already waiting in the wings.
No destination has yet been confirmed, and negotiations with interested clubs are ongoing. However, with Chelsea now reportedly willing to facilitate a transfer and Jorgensen determined to secure a fresh start, an exit appears increasingly likely.
