Everton are “still weighing up” whether to keep Chelsea winger Tyrique George on a permanent basis, according to BBC reporter Nizaar Kinsella.

The journalist is usually reliable when it comes to the Blues, and he claims the 20-year-old could end up staying at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

George joined the Toffees on loan until the end of the season, just before the January transfer window closed.

However, it included an option to buy, which the Merseysiders can still trigger within the next month.

George struggled for minutes at Everton

This development is somewhat surprising, considering that the England Under 21 international only started one game, the 2-1 home defeat to Bournemouth back in early February.

George got 210 minutes of action in total, but manager David Moyes did praise the player last week:

“We’ve enjoyed having Tyrique here – he’s been an excellent boy, and his work rate and everything has been excellent, so we’re happy with him.”

Talking about the prospect of keeping George (and Jack Grealish) on permanent deals, Moyes said that the club would “decide what path” to take in due course.

How much could Chelsea receive from the deal?

The actual purchase clause figure isn’t publicly known, but Kinsella claims it could be in “a similar ballpark” to the £22m transfer fee that Fulham agreed for the player on Deadline Day last summer.

Paperwork meant the move to Craven Cottage ultimately collapsed, and George ended up staying at Stamford Bridge for another six months before he was loaned out to Everton.

You can’t completely rule out the forward from returning for pre-season at Cobham, but it does look as if a switch to Everton is a genuine possibility.
