Florian Wirtz and Germany delivered a statement performance ahead of their summer campaign with a commanding 4-0 victory over Finland on Sunday evening.

From the opening whistle, Germany dictated tempo, pressed aggressively, and showed a sharpness in the final third that has sometimes eluded them in recent tournaments. Finland, to their credit, tried to stay compact, but were ultimately overwhelmed by the hosts.

Stuttgart’s Denis Undav and Bayern Munich’s Lennart Karl were the stand-out performers, the former handing Florian Wirtz an assist for his goal after a defensive mix-up from Finland.

Bullinews gave the Liverpool No.7 an 8/10, which was the second highest rating amongst all of Julian Naglesmann’s players.

Meanwhile, Spox gave the 22-year-old a 3/5 and wrote:

“Introduced himself with a beautiful pass to Nmecha in the ninth minute, but he missed it. Played some very nice passes after that, but also lost the ball quite often and was nowhere near as active and lively as Karl on the other side.”

“But thanks to Undav’s strong pressing slide assist, he scored the 2-0 in the centre and was able to say goodbye with a sense of achievement in the 73rd minute.”

Attention now turns to the next phase of preparations. The squad is set to hold a public training session at the DFB Campus, giving fans a closer look before they depart.

Shortly after, the team will travel from Frankfurt to Chicago on June 2, where they will face the United States on June 6 in their final warm-up fixture.

From there, Germany will base themselves in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, ahead of their Group E campaign.

Their tournament begins against Curaçao in Houston on June 14, followed by a heavyweight clash with Ivory Coast in Toronto on June 20, before concluding the group stage against Ecuador in New York/New Jersey on June 25.

A strong World Cup for Wirtz may be just what he needs to return to Liverpool next season with renewed confidence, especially under new management.
