Liverpool are among the clubs that have “been watching” Crystal Palace centre-back Maxence Lacroix, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.
Ibrahima Konate has confirmed that he will leave Anfield on a free transfer this summer, bringing an end to a successful five-year stay there.
It heightens the need for Liverpool to sign a new central defender, and speaking to Football Insider, O’Rourke mentioned Lacroix as an option for them:
“Crystal Palace might struggle to keep Lacroix around. He will be looking at the success his old partner Marc Guehi has had since he was allowed to leave in January, and he’ll be thinking he can replicate that. There’s a lot of interest in the Premier League, but also from abroad as well.
“Liverpool want a new centre-back and have been watching him, and Chelsea are in a similar position, they would like to bring him in this summer. But Bayern Munich are also interested, and that could certainly appeal to the player and to Crystal Palace as well.
“If they can help it, they would like to sell outside of the Premier League, so they could accept an offer from Bayern Munich before Liverpool or Chelsea. It would allow him to move back to Germany where he has played before, and to a club who are almost guaranteed to win trophies and compete for the Champions League. That would make sense as the next step for him after the success he’s at at Crystal Palace.”
Could Maxence Lacroix excel in a Liverpool shirt?
Lacroix has impressed so much for Palace, winning the FA Cup and the UEFA Europa Conference League in the past 12 months, and being described as “incredible” by Oliver Glasner.
The 26-year-old Frenchman started 35 of the Eagles’ 38 Premier League games in 2025/26, averaging a mammoth 7.2 clearances per match, but also completing 88.2% of his passes.
Lacroix has proven himself in English football over an extended period, which is an immediate positive with him, and he is coming right into his peak as a centre-back.
He and Virgil van Dijk could forge a strong understanding, while youngsters Giovanni Leoni and Jeremy Jacquet are given time to mature as highly-rated defenders.
