Liverpool transfer target Rafael Leao has confirmed that he will seek to leave AC Milan this summer.

Reports in both the English and Italian media have named the Reds as potential suitors for the Portuguese international over the past month.

Speaking in an interview about his future, Leao made it very clear that he doesn’t want to spend another season at the San Siro:

“I’m proud as I made history at AC Milan, but I want [a] new chapter. I feel ready to play in another league. I did my best for Milan, but it’s time to try another challenge.”

Leao does have other suitors

Manchester United are likely to be one of Liverpool’s main rivals for the 26-year-old’s signature. Michael Carrick’s have reportedly scouted the winger on several occasions in recent weeks.

Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea have also been credited with an interest, although all three teams may prioritise other targets.

City might only sign a left-sided forward if they sell Savinho. The Gunners are said to be targeting PSG’s Bradley Barcola, while Chelsea have been keeping tabs on Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers (among other options).

How much would Liverpool need to pay for Leao?

Milan’s home defeat to Cagliari on the final day of the season last month meant that they lost out on Champions League qualification to Como.

Sales are, therefore, required to balance the books and Leao is one of their key assets. However, they could be forced into offloading him for a much lower fee due to financial pressures.

An offer in the region of €50m (£43m) to €60m (£52m) is likely to be accepted. That would make him a much cheaper addition than some of the other winger options sporting director Richard Hughes is looking at.

Yan Diomande’s asking price is believed to be €100m (£87m), while Barcola could well cost a similar figure.
