It’s looking increasingly likely that Andoni Iraola will become the new Liverpool manager this summer.
Arne Slot was relieved of his duties on Saturday morning, with the Dutch manager managing to say goodbye via an open letter to fans:
UK ONLY
“I leave with complete confidence in what lies ahead. The players who have given so much to this club, who have upheld its values and helped create so many unforgettable moments, have built foundations that will endure,” an excerpt read
“Change is part of football, but I know that this club will continue to make its people proud.”
“When I first stood beneath that sign in the Anfield tunnel, I knew what this club demanded. I leave knowing we never stopped striving for it.”
Over the weekend, widespread reports quickly agreed that the Spaniard would in all likelihood be Arne Slot’s successor.
Iraola has steadily earned recognition as one of Europe’s most forward-thinking coaches, turning Bournemouth into one of the Premier League’s most aggressive, high-energy sides before deciding this summer was the right time to move on in search of a new challenge.
During the 2025/26 campaign, Iraola guided the south coast club to a historic Europa League qualification while also delivering their highest-ever Premier League points tally with 57.
Under his leadership, Bournemouth have evolved from relegation battlers into a fearless outfit capable of troubling the league’s elite and consistently taking points off the traditional top six.
Now journalist Ben Jacobs has reported that talks are underway:
“Talks between Andoni Iraola and Liverpool are already underway and are expected to move quickly,” he reported.
It certainly suggests Liverpool want clarity in place well before pre-season so the new manager can hit the ground running. Stability, after all the upheaval, will be priceless heading into a campaign where expectations will remain sky-high regardless of who is in charge.
