Arsenal supporters have been left divided after former England striker Teddy Sheringham suggested that Mikel Arteta should consider a shock move for Real Madrid right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold to add another dimension of creativity to the Gunners’ attack.
The suggestion quickly sparked debate across social media, with many ARSENAL fans discussing whether the England international would be a worthwhile addition despite the club already possessing strong options at right-back.
Alexander-Arnold, widely regarded as one of the most creative defenders in world football, only recently completed a high-profile move to Real Madrid. Nevertheless, the prospect of him linking up with Arteta’s side generated a huge response online.
Some Arsenal supporters were immediately enthusiastic about the idea: One fan wrote: “Trent feeding passes to Saka, Martinelli and a new striker? Sign me up immediately.”
Another posted: “People can talk about defending all they want. You don’t say no to a player with that level of creativity.”
A third supporter added: “Arteta loves technical players. Trent would fit perfectly into our system.”
Several fans pointed to Arsenal’s occasional struggles to break down deep defensive blocks and argued that Alexander-Arnold’s passing range could provide a solution: “Imagine having someone who can create chances from absolutely nowhere. That’s what Trent does every week,” one supporter commented.
Another wrote: “His crossing alone would probably add ten goals a season.”
Not all supporters were convinced, however, Many questioned whether signing another right-back should be a priority when Arsenal are widely expected to strengthen other positions during the transfer window: One fan posted: “We need a striker and another winger. Right-back is nowhere near the top of the list.”
Another wrote: “Fantastic player but this feels like a luxury signing rather than a necessary one.”
Defensive concerns were also raised by sections of the fanbase: One supporter commented: “Great on the ball, but teams would target that side defensively every week.”
Another added: “I respect Trent’s quality but Arteta demands defensive discipline. I’m not sure it’s the perfect fit.”
One fan joked: “We’ve gone from being linked with strikers to signing Real Madrid’s right-back. Transfer season is officially here.”
Another posted: “By next week we’ll probably be linked with Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Jr as well.”
Several supporters imagined how *ARSENAL*‘s lineup could look with Alexander-Arnold operating in one of Arteta’s hybrid roles: “Trent inverting into midfield with Rice behind him would be ridiculous,” wrote one fan.
Another added: “Arteta would probably turn him into a midfielder within three weeks.”
Others simply refused to believe there was any realistic chance of a deal taking place: One supporter wrote: “Real Madrid have just signed him. Why would they let him leave already?”
Another summed up the mood of many fans by posting: “Amazing player, impossible transfer.”
While the speculation remains little more than a talking point at this stage, it has certainly succeeded in capturing the imagination of Arsenal supporters. Whether they support the idea or oppose it, fans across social media have made one thing clear: any rumour involving a player of Alexander-Arnold’s quality is guaranteed to generate plenty of discussion.
