Chelsea now have the chance to make an even better defensive signing than Thiago Silva

Thiago Silva will go down as one of Chelsea’s smartest pieces of business ever.

The Blues signed him on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain back in 2020. In his first season at the club, he helped them to win the Champions League.

Chelsea’s defence now look lost without the 41-year-old, but they have the opportunity to make a very similar signing to him this summer.

Are you taking Thiago Silva back at Chelsea? If so, in what capacity?🤔

Chelsea should sign Marquinhos as PSG approve departure

Champions League winners PSG could be about to sell Silva’s former teammate Marquinhos.

According to L’Equipe, their captain will be allowed to leave the Parc des Princes in the upcoming transfer window. If true, Chelsea should be all over him.

Marquinhos is easily one of the best centre-backs in the world and showed that with a terrific performance in the Champions League final against Arsenal. Right now, Chelsea are really missing a centre-half with his profile.

Marquinhos has a plethora of experience at the very elite level and is a real leader, with the Brazilian currently captaining PSG.

In total, Marquinhos has made 523 appearances for the French club. He has also won 104 caps for Brazil.

He knows what it takes to win, getting his hands on an incredible 11 Ligue 1 titles and two Champions League trophies. Most importantly, though, the former AS Roma man is just a really good defender.

Marquinhos is pretty strong in the air despite not being the tallest centre-half, while he is also excellent at getting tight to his man and preventing him from causing any real danger.

Chelsea have tried to sign Marquinhos in the past; they must now try again if he is on the market.

If Chelsea signed Marquinhos, where would you rank him among the Premier League’s top centre-backs?

Why Marquinhos could be a better signing than Thiago Silva

Marquinhos is still only 32. When Chelsea signed Silva, he was 35. It means the Blues could end up getting much more out of Marquinhos if they go on to sign him.

Silva may be a bit stronger than Marquinhos thanks to his physique, and despite being slightly shorter, he is probably the more dominant centre-back as well. But the two Brazil stars are in the same category.

There is no reason why Marquinhos cannot join Chelsea and have the same kind of impact that Silva had and for much longer.
