Federico Chiesa attracting interest from Champions League club

The transfer window is nearly upon us and promises a busy summer of business. For the third window running, Liverpool forward Federico Chiesa is again attracting speculation after a peripheral role under Arne Slot last season

The 28-year-old, who was previously linked with Napoli and Juventus, still has two years left on his contract. The winger has been linked with a return to Serie A ever since his move from Juventus in 2024.

Having started just five games in all competitions last season, a summer exit after two years at Anfield would not be a surprise.

Federico Chiesa made 36 appearances, scoring three goals and providing three assists, with most of his outings coming from the bench las term.

Once a standout performer at Euro 2021, the Italy international has struggled to replicate that level. Injury issues were less frequent last season, but his fitness record over recent campaigns may still deter potential suitors.

However, with his contract running until 2028, Liverpool are in a strong position to demand a significant fee if they decide to sanction a sale.

The dismissal of Arne Slot and the possible arrival of Andoni Iraola as the new head coach could further reshape Liverpool’s direction, with Federico Chiesa’s future once again coming under scrutiny.

According to Calciomercato, Como have shown a strong interest in Chiesa as they look to overhaul their squad and add more Italian influence.

Under UEFA regulations, clubs can register a maximum of 25 players on List A during the season, with at least two goalkeepers required.

Of those 25 spots, eight are reserved for locally trained players, including a maximum of four association-trained players. If a squad falls short of the eight locally trained players, the overall List A limit is reduced accordingly, meaning a maximum of 17 foreign players.

Chiesa, who has previously been linked with a return to Italy but has not actively pushed for one, is seen as a strong option for Como.

Federico Chiesa is reportedly set to leave Liverpool after a difficult two-year spell at Anfield. Liverpool are expected to try to recoup a significant portion of the fee paid for Chiesa.

A major squad rebuild is anticipated at Anfield, with wide attacking reinforcements a priority. Bradley Barcola, Yan Diomande and Antonio Nusa have all been linked as potential targets.
