FootballTransfers runs through the latest Chelsea transfer news, rumours and gossip, including updates on Florian Wirtz and Jarrod Bowen.

Florian Wirtz truth

Chelsea have been speculatively linked with a bombshell move for Liverpool attacker Florian Wirtz since the appointment of his former Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso, but transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has poured cold water on a possible transfer.

Wirtz struggled during his debut campaign at Anfield, however Liverpool have no intention of allowing him to leave after just one year at the club and Chelsea will therefore be forced to pursue an alternative target this summer.

“No. Florian Wirtz is not leaving Liverpool this summer,” Romano told his YouTube channel" href="https://www.footballtransfers.com/en/transfer-news/uk-premier-league/2026/06/fabrizio-romano-transfer-news-big-liverpool-updates-osimhens-future-man-utd-love-tchouameni" target="_blank">Romano told his YouTube channel. “The relationship between Xabi Alonso and Florian Wirtz is excellent, of course. They won together, they had a fantastic time together at Bayer Leverkusen, but that's it.

“There is no negotiation, no talks. Chelsea are not looking for that kind of player. And it's also important to mention that Florian Wirtz remains an important part of Liverpool's squad. Liverpool absolutely believe in Florian Wirtz. They believe that next season could be his season in red.

“There is absolutely no movement around Florian Wirtz. Forget about those links coming from England.”

Xabi Alonso is a fan of Jarrod Bowen

Xabi Alonso has already expressed his admiration for West Ham United forward Jarrod Bowen amid significant rumours suggesting that Chelsea are eager to finalise a deal this summer.

The England winger, who was harshly omitted from Thomas Tuchel’s squad for the 2026 World Cup, has been on Chelsea’s radar for several months and the west London giants are now weighing up an approach following West Ham’s relegation to the Championship, according to The Independent" href="https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/chelsea-jarrod-bowen-transfer-news-west-ham-fee-b2986402.html" target="_blank">The Independent.

Liverpool and Manchester United have also been linked with a possible summer move for Bowen, although Chelsea appear to be the frontrunners for his signature and they have already received the ‘green light’ from Alonso to pursue a deal.

Speaking to TNT Sports" href="https://x.com/footballontnt/status/1781073735664939347" target="_blank">TNT Sports after his Leverkusen side secured a 3-1 aggregate win over West Ham in the Europa League quarter-finals in 2024, Alonso admitted: “We know the physicality of West Ham, [they are] not just good players. Bowen and [Mohammed] Kudus are top, top players, but, as well, they are able to play with a lot of physicality.”

Marc Cucurella wants to leave

Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella is willing to leave the club this summer amid transfer interest from La Liga giants Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Real Madrid.

The Athletic" href="https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7321218/2026/06/01/marc-cucurella-chelsea-sale-transfer-news/" target="_blank">The Athletic report that incoming Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso wants to keep Cucurella at the club next season and has already held talks with the player ahead of his arrival. However, he is aware of his compatriot’s desire to explore a transfer away.

Atletico Madrid and Barcelona have both contacted Chelsea officials about a possible deal, while Real Madrid appreciate Cucurella, although it remains to be seen if they will act on their interest.

Manchester City have also been linked, with ex-Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca set to take over, but a move to the Etihad Stadium is unlikely to take place due to the presence of Nico O’Reilly.

Malo Gusto to Man City?

Manchester City have reportedly submitted an enquiry to Chelsea regarding a potential summer deal for Malo Gusto as Enzo Maresca looks to secure a reunion with the France international.

Several Chelsea stars have been linked with a summer move to City due to Maresca’s imminent appointment, including Enzo Fernandez and Cucurella, and Gusto has now emerged as the latest player who could follow his former boss to the Etihad Stadium.

That is according to a report from TEAMtalk" href="https://www.teamtalk.com/manchester-city/malo-gusto-transfer-man-city-chelsea-bayern-munich-interest" target="_blank">TEAMtalk, who claim that Man City and Bayern Munich have both lodged enquiries over a possible deal for the 23-year-old this summer.

Gusto has made over 130 appearances for Chelsea since his arrival from Lyon in 2023, but he endured an underwhelming end to the 2025-26 season and a host of Blues fans have called for the club to consider a sale as a result of his poor form over the past few months.

Chelsea join Rafael Leao race

Chelsea are among the clubs eager to sign AC Milan forward Rafael Leao this summer, as per a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes" href="https://www.fichajes.net/noticias/tres-equipos-premier-llaman-puerta-rafael-leao-20260531.html" target="_blank">Fichajes.

The Portugal international has confirmed that he wants to leave San Siro ahead of the 2026-27 campaign and Manchester United are currently deemed to be the favourites for his signature in the Premier League.

However, Chelsea have a long-standing interest in Leao and they are reportedly set to battle Michael Carrick’s side for the signing of Leao when the window opens.

Possible signing visits Cobham

Chelsea are exploring the market for potential goalkeeper options, and they have now taken a liking to young Stade Reims star Ewen Jaouen, according to Canal Plus.

The 20-year-old has not yet tasted top-flight football, but he has enjoyed two very impressive seasons in Ligue 2 and some reports have suggested that he already has an agreement on personal terms in place with Newcastle.

However, Chelsea and Real Madrid are also in the race, and it is reported that Jaouen has already been in England to tour Chelsea's Cobham facilities, which suggests that he is at the very least considering a move to the Blues as a viable option. Reims are said to be demanding around €25m for the goalkeeper.
