Ireland captain Katie McCabe has made the move to Chelsea after she announced her departure from London rivals, Arsenal, before the _Gunners’_ game against Liverpool at Anfield on the final day of the WSL season.
Despite supporting the _Blues_ growing up, McCabe joined the _Gunners_ in 2015, rejecting offers from Glasgow City, Chelsea and Manchester City.
After a tough first year in North London she spent 2017 out on loan at Glasgow City before returning to the Gunners, who were under the new management of Joe Montemurro.
Following her loan spell up in Scotland, she became a mainstay for both Arsenal and internationally with Ireland, where she earned the Ireland captaincy at just 21-years-old and led her national team to the FIFA 2023 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
Throughout her ten years in the red and white of Arsenal, she appeared 306 times for the club, captaining the side on various occasions and scored 37 goals during her tenure.
She won a total of seven trophies while at Arsenal including one Barclays Women's Super League title, one FA Cup, three Women's League cups, a UEFA Women's Champions League title last season and the inaugural FIFA Women's Champions Cup which was played in late January early February this year.
She now joins London rivals Chelsea, who up until this year have dominated domestically, winning eight Barclays Women's Super League titles, six of which were back-to-back, along with six FA Cups and four Women's League Cups.
Before she formally joins the _Blues_, her focus will be on the upcoming international break where she will play a key role in the Republic of Ireland's remaining FIFA 2027 World Cup qualifiers against the Netherlands at the Páirc Uí Chaoimh in Cork on June 5th, before travelling to Stade des Alpes in Grenoble to play France on June 9th.
