Arsenal are prepared to part ways with three players during the summer transfer window, according to The Telegraph.
The Gunners ended their long wait for the Premier League title last month, but they could not get over the line to win the Champions League final.
Arsenal showed tremendous defensive resolve against Paris Saint-Germain, but eventually lost the European crown through a penalty shoot-out.
It is now reported that the Gunners are preparing for another summer spending spree, but sporting director Andrea Berta must first demonstrate his selling power.
There are several potential players that could be sold, and The Telegraph mention that ‘the likes of Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard and Ethan Nwaneri will be available’.
Arsenal need player sales for a bigger spending spree
The Gunners spent more than £250 million on eight signings last summer. The last of those was Piero Hincapie, who arrived on a season-long loan from Bayer Leverkusen.
Hincapie had a superb debut campaign with Arsenal and looks poised to join permanently for £45m.
Arsenal can’t be expected to go on a similar spending spree without player sales. They have a fully-loaded squad and will need to free up space, funds as well as the wage bill.
Trossard’s exit won’t come as a surprise. The Belgian was handed an improved contract last summer, but the club still decided against extending his deal beyond June 2027.
The £27 million signing could be one of the first candidates to leave. Martinelli’s future is also hanging in the balance. He has a contract until next year, with a 12-month option.
Arsenal may offload him if a contract renewal is not agreed upon. Nwaneri, on the other hand, looks likely to be sold. A sale of around £40m would represent pure profit, as he is a club graduate.
Aside from the trio, we could see a few more departures. Gabriel Jesus is attracting interest from multiple clubs and could leave for £20m as he enters the last year of his contract.
Right-back Ben White could be another player to depart. Arsenal have a keen interest in Newcastle United’s Tino Livramento, whose arrival could coincide with White’s exit.
There has been no indication that Martin Odegaard could make way after an injury-plagued season. The Telegraph claim his exit would be unpopular with manager Mikel Arteta.
