Senne Lammens Award Caps Man United’s Stellar Season Over Arsenal and Chelsea

Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens has been named the Premier League‘s Signing of the Season, according to the Premier League’s official announcement. The Belgian shot-stopper, who joined United from Royal Antwerp on Deadline Day last summer for a fee of £18.1 million, saw off a strong eight-man shortlist that included Arsenal’s Viktor Gyokeres and Chelsea’s Joao Pedro. The Senne Lammens award further underlines how comprehensively the Red Devils dominated the Premier League’s end-of-season honours.

Lammens produced 79 saves and kept eight clean sheets across 32 league appearances, helping Manchester United secure a third-place finish and Champions League qualification for next season. He prevented more goals than any other goalkeeper in the Premier League this past season, and United lost just four matches with him between the sticks.

Senne Lammens Award Sits Alongside United’s Wider Honours Haul

This was far from the only silverware Old Trafford collected this awards season. Bruno Fernandes won the Premier League Player of the Season award ahead of Arsenal trio Gabriel, David Raya and Declan Rice, after breaking the single-season assist record with 21, surpassing the marks of Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne, both of whom had recorded 20. Fernandes was also crowned the 2026 Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year, becoming the first Manchester United player to win that award since Wayne Rooney in 2010. Manager Michael Carrick was shortlisted for the manager of the year but lost out to title-winning Mikel Arteta.

Gyokeres scored 14 goals in 36 league games on his Premier League debut after a £63.5 million move from Sporting Lisbon, while Joao Pedro netted 15 times for Chelsea in 35 games following his £60 million switch from Brighton.

Senne Lammens Award Vindicates a Bold Call by United’s Recruitment Team

United’s goalkeeping coach Tony Coton had watched Lammens multiple times in his only full senior campaign at Antwerp and pressed director of football Jason Wilcox to make the move, backed by director of recruitment Christopher Vivell. United had been publicly linked with Argentina’s World Cup-winning goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, making the choice of a relatively unknown 23-year-old a genuine statement of intent from INEOS. Lammens said he was honoured to receive the recognition, crediting his teammates, coaching staff and supporters for their belief throughout the campaign.

This clean sweep of awards tells a bigger story about United’s revival under Carrick. For a club that had spent two seasons firefighting, winning the Senne Lammens award alongside multiple individual honours signals something more meaningful: a squad rebuilt with genuine purpose, producing results that match the ambition.
