Fabrizio Romano drops very exciting Arsenal transfer update, it's bad news for Trossard -…

As an estimated 1.5m Arsenal supporters took to the streets of north London on Sunday afternoon, you would not have thought that less than 24 hours prior they had lost the Champions League final.

That night in Budapest may always be filled with regrets at how the penalty shoot-out played out but this season has still been well and truly magical.

Arsenal parade

It was the one in which the Gunners ended 22 years of hurt, the campaign where they finally established themselves as winners agian. It was a first Premier League title in over two decades. Not since the Invincibles has such success been seen in these parts.

With that in mind, there was always going to be a huge party around the Emirates on Sunday. Whether quite so many supporters were expected was another matter.

Fans packed every piece of pavement available. Some were seen on the roof of Lidl, some were packed on top of the old Highbury station in their droves. It was quite that atmoshpere.

Even Josh Kroenke was seen starting chants. The way he has bought into this Arsenal team is incredible but now the responsibility falls to him and his father, Stan, to provide Mikel Arteta with the funds he deserves to take the club to next level. Where does it all begin? Well, this summer, of course.

Arsenal beginning to ramp up their transfer plans

How do you improve the Premier League title winners? Well, considering they did actually have a few gaps, there are some areas where the club can target immediately.

What happens to the central striker berth remains up in the air. Viktor Gyokeres may well have scored 21 goals in all competitions, subsequently ending the season as their top scorer, but his overall play was criticised for much of his debut year in London.

In midfield, there are also concerns. Martin Zubimendi ended the campaign in a bad way, barely featuring as Myles Lewis-Skelly overtook him in the middle of the park.

David Ornstein confirmed on Saturday night that, as a result, the Gunners are looking at signing a new number 6 and or a new number 8.

Eberechi Eze should be fretting over his minutes at Arsenal.

That's not all that's in the pipeline, however. Speaking on his YouTube channel on Sunday, Fabrizio Romano provided the latest on Arsenal's plans for the forthcoming summer.

"I think it is going to be a busy summer for Arsenal. I think there could be three or four signings, also based on exits. There will be movement up front. A winger is an absolute priority for Arsenal and a striker is a possibility. In midfield and at right-back they have been searching for opportunities since January."

Romano continued: "They will invest important money and they will try to complete their squad in the best way possible. They see an opportunity with clubs making changes in the Premier League. Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea will all have a new manager."

Which wingers could Arsenal sign?

It will come as no surprise to hear that Arsenal will be targeting new wingers in the summer transfer window but it's exciting nonetheless. Besides Noni Madueke last summer, it's largely been a position that Arteta has ignored since becoming the manager.

That has been to the benefit of both Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli but now is surely the time to upgrade on them. There was a stage where they were a really important part of this project.

Martinelli scored 15 goals in 2022/23, ending the term as Arsenal's joint-top scorer alongside Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard. However, since then his powers have waned. He scored just once in the Premier League this season. As for Trossard, he may well have netted that vital winner away at West Ham, but prior to that, the Belgian hadn't beaten the goalkeeper in 25 consecutive matches.

Whether Arsenal cash in on both players or just one of them remains to be seen. Aged 31, it is unlikely that Trossard would fetch a big fee but there would certainly be an expectation that Martinelli could bring in a healthy profit on the lowly £6m they signed him from Ituano in Brazil for.

Either way, the addition of a new winger and a left sided one in particular would be bad news for the pair of them.

So, who could they sign? Well, several players have been linked. Anthony Gordon was one of the options but he has moved to Barcelona from Newcastle. Elsewhere PSG's Bradley Barcola is an interesting proposition.

Reports last week suggested that the Gunners are in the race to sign the Frenchman but they face competition from Liverpool for his signature.

Morgan Rogers is perhaps the dream target right now. They have reportedly already held talks with the player's camp but with a prospective £100m price tag, it will not be an easy deal to do.

Whether or not he's worth £100m is up for debate but what isn't up for debate is how strong a signing Rogers would be. He has scored 14 goals in back to back seasons now, notably winning the PFA Young Player of the Year award for 2024/25.

Compared to Trossard and Martinelli, he's got more ingenuity to his play and he's more versatile. The Aston Villa man doesn't just operate off the left but he can also play as a no.10 or as a striker.

That sort of presence in the squad is something Arteta would love; this would be a brilliant signing if it can be done.
