Xabi Alonso is one of the most talented young coaches in the world, and he is going to lead Chelsea forward over the next several years.
It's the perfect silver lining at the end of a difficult campaign, with the embattled Blues emerging bashed and bruised after slumping to a ninth-place finish, thus cut from European competition.
Complications have already arose from this. Enzo Fernandez wants to call time on his Stamford Bridge career - though whether any suitors would pay the £120m asking price is another matter - and Marc Cucurella is now rumoured to be exploring his options too, gunning for a return to his Spanish homeland.

A lot to sort out, but while defensive and central areas need redress, Chelsea have also left a lot to be desired in attack over the past year, and a superstar forward could go a long way toward lifting Alonso's system up into the limelight.
Chelsea in talks to sign marque forward
Chelsea haven't been sharp enough in attack this season, and more profligacy and uncertainty during offensive phases will make bridging the gap on those at the top of the Premier League rather difficult.
Alonso's intelligent build-up sequences will hopefully make a difference, but Chelsea will help from afar, not just tweaks within the system.
Cole Palmer will be expected to bounce back after a tough year, but he'll need world-class attacking quality to assist him, and BlueCo appear to be aiming for the stars there.
According to TEAMtalk, Chelsea are among the growing list of Premier League outfits to have been in contact with Vinicius Junior's representatives. The Real Madrid forward is unsettled in the Spanish capital, just one year out from the culmination of his contract.
Real Madrid's Vinicius Junior reacts
Valued at £130m, Vinicius Jr. would not come cheap, but with Manchester United appearing to lead the race, it's imperative that BlueCo do everything they can to bring him over to Stamford Bridge.
Vini is one of the very best in the business, and while he shuffles from left wing to a central attacking position, he has the potential to grow into Chelsea's best wide forward since the days of Eden Hazard.
Why Vini. Jr could be the new Hazard
Hazard, 35 and retired, is one of the greatest attackers in Premier League history, a winger who achieved so much with Chelsea, and in return is lionised by the west London supporters.
The former Belgium international played 352 matches for Chelsea, scoring 110 goals and supplying 88 assists. His control and skill on the ball almost beggared belief. He may well have been among a small handful of stars who can say they had something Messi-esque about their dribbling ability.
Vinicius Junior is not the same, more economical in the way he carries himself in offensive situations. But he's still among the very best in the business, devastating in front of goal and capable of breaching the sternest of defences.

Hazard he is not, but Vini could still become a Premier League legend, more of a direct threat and someone who could combine with, say, Palmer and take the responsibility on scoring goals and lading the line.
He scored 22 goals and supplied 14 assists across all competitions, now having crossed the 20-goal mark in each of his last five campaigns. Sky Sports analyst Pythagoras in Boots has called him "generational", a winger who is "comparable to great wingers of other generations".
Whether Chelsea manage to tempt Vini when there is no European football to offer is another question, but he will be aware that the Blues' chances of bouncing back to the very top would increase tenfold with him fronting the attack.

Chelsea also have a trump card in the form of Alonso. The coach and his pupil might not have always seen eye-to-eye across the opening months of the season, but he "learned a lot", and could benefit from joining a Chelsea frontline who would expect him to take on the talismanic role, with the likes of Kylian Mbappe not in the picture.
