Andy Robertson could come into Tottenham Hotspur as a replacement for Destiny Udogie.

The Scotland international looks set to come in on a free transfer when his contract expires at Liverpool.

A move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is all but done, with Roberto De Zerbi now waiting to confirm the deal.

That move has already raised questions over his place in the Lilywhites’ squad and where he will fit into the backline.

The 32-year-old could be set to sign and immediately take a starting role, leaving Udogie to face the exit door at Tottenham.

Destiny Udogie could return to Italy this summer

The 23-year-old has often been one of the better performers in N17, but he has certainly had a patchy injury record over the years.

That has limited his output this season, where De Zerbi, Igor Tudor and Thomas Frank were unable to get the best out of him.

With Robertson now set to come through the doors, his poor availability rate may prove to be his downfall at Spurs.

Former scout Bryan King believes the ex-Udinese man could return to his homeland this summer, with the Scot likely to have assurances over his minutes.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, King said: “I could see Udogie going back to Italy.

“There’s AC Milan, Inter Milan or Juventus, who I would imagine are going to be interested in him.

“Robertson isn’t going to join without guaranteed game time, so there will be some movement there.

“Udogie has come ok, but he’s been injured for a long time, and that will hamper his value.

“He will bring money in, but maybe just £20m I would think.”

Udogie has come under pressure at times for Tottenham, and it may now prove to be the end of the road in North London.

Andy Robertson signing will help generate £20m+ for Tottenham

Although it may seem like a strange move to replace a 23-year-old international with a much older option, it could make sense for the Lilywhites right now.

Spurs are in desperate need of an overhaul, and any funds that can be thrown into that will certainly come in handy.

That is where selling Udogie could help, even if the fee is only in the region of £20m.

Robertson would then become the go-to man with Souza as his backup, leaving that transfer fee to be spent elsewhere in the squad.

There is a logic to the move, even if many fans may not see the upside right now.
