Liverpool's summer transfer window is already looking active, and despite sacking Arne Slot as manager, their plans are not slowing down.
The Dutchman was shown the door at Anfield after a poor campaign, and is now expected to be replaced by outgoing Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola in the dugout, with the Spaniard holding talks over a move to Merseyside.
But there are still some decisions around the playing squad that look likely to take place regardless of the manager, and there is a deal that has been mooted as being a possibility now.
Liverpool Tipped to Complete Swap Deal
Curtis Jones
Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertsson, and Ibrahima Konate have all been confirmed to be leaving the club this summer, while Alisson Becker has also been tipped to be on the move amid strong interest from Juventus.
But another player who is understood to be set to depart is Curtis Jones, who is entering the final year of his contract with no agreement over a renewal in sight.
Inter Milan have shown a strong interest in the midfielder, and have held talks in recent weeks with Liverpool's hierarchy to find an agreement. However, there is currently about a €10m gap in valuation, and talks haven't advanced, despite Jones being very open to the move.
It's now been mooted by Gazzetta dello Sport, via Sport Witness, that the possibility of a swap deal hasn't been ruled out, with Liverpool still holding a strong interest in Inter defender Denzel Dumfries.
The Netherlands international, who has been described as 'world-class', has a £20m release clause in his contract that becomes active this summer, and the Reds are keen to strengthen their right-back options after Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong had injury-hit campaigns. The report states that the two clubs could find a compromise for both players to swap clubs, although it would likely be in separate deals for accounting purposes.
Liverpool Should Keep Jones, Forget Dumfries
Denzel Dumfries
Dumfries has proven his quality in the past, shining at international level with the Netherlands and also helping Inter Milan win several Scudettos, plus reaching the Champions League final.
But he hasn't been performing at his best level over the last 12 months, while Jones has been improving with every passing game at Liverpool, in a key midfield position. The England international, who came through the Anfield academy, is very complete and is surely someone that Iraola would love to have in his squad.
Keeping Frimpong fit, rather than spending money on a player who is very similar to him, would be a better allocation of time and funds, and Jones could develop into a top star under the incoming manager, so this is a deal they should shelve.
