Talks are now firmly "underway" regarding huge Liverpool move - reliable journalist

**Liverpool are now reportedly in talks with Andoni Iraola over becoming their new head coach or manager, following the departure of Arne Slot.**

Slot was relieved of his duties at Anfield last weekend, with the Dutchman then sending a [classy open letter](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/arne-slot-liverpool-echo-letter-34040809) to the supporters on Monday, saying in part:

_“You walk out under that famous sign in the Anfield tunnel, and you feel a mix of emotions. Responsibility, of course. To this club’s great history. Expectation, naturally. To honour the legacy that, for 134 years, has made Liverpool FC one of the biggest clubs in world football._

_“And determination. To compete. To win. To bring success to an Anfield crowd so renowned across the globe. That all of those emotions would culminate in a Premier League title after just 12 months was beyond special. It was not only a trophy, but a reward for the hard work, sacrifice and commitment shown by so many people throughout the club._

_“It was made even more meaningful because you got to enjoy it with us. Singing our songs, cheering the goals. And on the day we lifted the trophy, you were there. Lining the streets outside the stadium, filling Anfield in anticipation.”_

Iraola has emerged as the strong favourite to replace Slot at Liverpool, and writing on [_X_](https://x.com/JacobsBen/status/2061455577360761286?s=20), reliable journalist Ben Jacobs has only heightened those claims:

_“Talks between Andoni Iraola and Liverpool are already underway and are expected to move quickly.”_

**A matter of when Andoni Iraola takes charge of Liverpool?**

-------------------------------------------------------------

At this point, it would be a shock if Iraola wasn’t named Liverpool’s next manager, and the Spaniard would be a hugely exciting appointment, having excelled at Bournemouth.

He would bring an attractive playing style, which was a criticism of Slot, as well as getting the Reds running and pressing with more intensity, which was sorely lacking in 2025/26.

Any appointment comes with a risk, though, and it will be a challenge for Iraola to juggle his style of football with the demands of three days a week.

It is an appointment for Liverpool fans to feel positive about, though, as they look to overcome a woeful season and reach their potential again, aided by plenty of new signings in the summer transfer window.
