Following the decision made by Liverpool to sack Arne Slot, many players have posted on social media thanking the Dutch head coach for his time at Anfield as he led them to the Premier League title in 2024/25 season
The past 12 months have been hard to sit through for Kopites, as performances and hunger to win have been well below the expectations for a club the size of the Reds. After just squeezing into the Champions League places, the club determined he was no longer the correct figure to lead them back towards the top of the table.
The following day, Virgil Van Dijk was the first of the squad to post regarding the former head coach on Instagram, saying, “We’ll never forget winning the Premier League in our first season together. Thank you, Trainer, and best of luck to you and your family for the future.” In the following hours, more players have shown gratitude towards Slot for his time at Anfield.

The 2024/25 season was almost perfect for the club, and for an incoming manager, it was pretty much as good as it could have been, beating Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City and Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal to the league title, two sides that looked much more prepared than the Merseyside outfit.
The initial improvement of players allowed Liverpool to climb up the league and establish a position in which they could have gone on to win the league, which they later did. Dutch midfielder Ryan Gravenberch became a different player overnight, as he quickly received widespread praise for his role under Slot.
He took to X, where he said, “Thank you for everything, coach. Lifting the Premier League trophy together was an incredible achievement and a moment I’ll never forget. Wishing you all the best for the future.”
Alongside the 24-year-old, Curtis Jones and Alexis Mac Allister were key components in their league title success, with the latter being a main starter throughout the course of his time at the club, as he said, ” I’ll always be grateful for the time we spent together. Winning the Premier League is not easy, and you were a big part of that success.”
Gravenberch’s Fellow Dutch international, Jeremie Frimpong, also showed support for the 47-year-old on Instagram, as he said, “Thank for for everything coach, all the best for the future.” The fullback hasn’t had the debut campaign on Merseyside he may have wished, with hamstring injuries limiting his effectiveness when included in a matchday squad, though one of his other summer signings thrived under his tactical approach, and showed his respect on social media.
Hugo Ekitike was the club’s top scorer this past year, looking the man to lead the line for the club. However, a serious Achilles injury against eventual Champions League winners, Paris Saint-Germain, will keep him out for many more months. On Instagram, he said, “Thank you for everything you taught me and for the time you gave me, both on and off the pitch. I wish you all the very best, Coach.”
Giovanni Leoni and Alexander Isak both joined last summer in the clubs’ £450 million transfer window, though both have experienced long periods out with injuries. The Italian has been out since September with an ACL injury, whilst the club’s record signing has had fitness issues all season. They have both wished him the best for the future.
Rio Ngumoha made his first-team debut under Slot when they played Accrington Stanley in the third round of the FA Cup in January 2025. Since then, he has become a star of the squad, with supporters excited for his future in a red shirt. Towards the end of the Dutchman’s reign, he was becoming a more regular figure on the field.
The 17-year-old made a post on Instagram with the caption “Thank you, Gaffer”. Trey Nyoni has been another member of the academy who has been a regular in the first team squad over the past two years, who also paid tribute to Slot
