Chelsea choose the Real Madrid superstar they want in swap deal for Enzo Fernandez

Chelsea are starting to have to accept that Enzo Fernandez is desperate to make a move to Real Madrid this summer, although the Blues are determined to get a top player in exchange.

Fernandez was one of Chelsea’s most consistent players during the dismal 2025/26 season, scoring 15 goals from midfield in all competitions.

Despite Xabi Alonso’s desire to build around Fernandez, it has become clear he is desperate to join Madrid this summer, and they are very keen to have him too.

Chelsea want Federico Valverde in exchange for Enzo Fernandez

Jose Mourinho is a big fan of the Argentine, with the former Blues boss set to leave the Spanish giants for next season.

Chelsea are prepared to push their luck when it comes to getting a player in return from Madrid in order to facilitate the deal, and are looking at midfielder Federico Valverde.

According to El Nacional, the Blues are looking for an offer of Valverde and £20m in order to part ways with the World Cup winner this summer.

The report goes on to say that that swap deal is currently off the table as far as Madrid are concerned, although the Uruguayan is a player Chelsea have been keen on in the past.

Valverde scored nine goals and 13 assists in all competitions, despite playing a large portion of the season at right-back.

Fernandez’s agent pushing him to Chelsea exit

At this stage, it has been reported that Chelsea expect Fernandez to report for pre-season duty when his World Cup exploits come to an end.

However, this does not seem to be in his personal ambitions, and his agent has started talks with Jorge Mendes to help facilitate a move to Madrid.

Whether it’s Valverde or not, Chelsea need a serious replacement to their squad if he does leave, with the club being linked to Adam Wharton and Elliot Anderson, amongst others.

The club are expected to bring in Valentin Barco from Strasbourg when the window opens, who will be at the World Cup alongside Fernandez.
