From Brazil: Alisson rejects Juventus and commits to Liverpool until at least 2027

Alisson has reportedly rejected Juventus’ offer of a long-term contract and instead committed his future to Liverpool, with a decision to make next summer.

Earlier in the summer, Alisson had been expected to leave Liverpool after eight years to join Juventus as their new No. 1.

But despite ongoing speculation in Italy, the club were then reported to have blocked his exit with plans to keep him as first choice.

ESPN Brasil now claim Alisson has turned down Juventus in a signal of his commitment to Liverpool – and could even extend his current deal beyond 2027.

Why Alisson could now sign new Liverpool contract

Liverpool already triggered a 12-month clause in his contract which means he has a year left on his existing terms, but Alisson may now decide to sign for longer.

“The goalkeeper’s plan is to fulfil the final year of his contract and, throughout the season, he will evaluate whether he will remain with the Reds or leave on a free transfer in the middle of next year,” ESPN’s report explains.

Alisson‘s decision is considered removed from the situation around Liverpool’s head coach, with Arne Slot sacked and Andoni Iraola set to arrive.

It is highly likely Iraola will plan for Alisson as his No. 1, which could cast doubt over Giorgi Mamardashvili‘s own future.

Mamardashvili faces the risk of stagnating with another season as backup and reports in Italy have already claimed he has been offered on loan to Juventus, Inter Milan and Fiorentina.

If Liverpool are open to handing Alisson a new contract that would almost certainly show their hand when it comes to Mamardashvili, who struggled to wholly convince in his first season.

Any move for the Georgian would mean finding a new No. 2 goalkeeper, though that role could be filled by Vitezslav Jaros upon his return from a serious knee injury.

Alisson is currently with the Brazil national team ahead of the World Cup, which could explain the timing and details of the report from ESPN Brasil.

He played the first half of Sunday’s 6-2 thrashing of Panama in the first of two warmup friendlies, with Carlo Ancelotti using the game to provide his entire squad minutes.

Brazil are in Group C for the tournament which pits them against Morocco (June 13), Haiti (June 20) and Scotland (June 24), and they are considered among the favourites to reach the final.

After the World Cup, Alisson will take a short break before returning to Liverpool for their first pre-season under Iraola.
