Arsenal man makes clear decision about future – Pressure on club to work out transfer

Arsenal midfielder Fabio Vieira has decided he wants to stay at HSV Hamburg this summer, pushing both sides to find an agreement for him.

Hamburger Abendblatt report that the 26-year-old wants to remain with the German club following a successful loan spell this season.

Arsenal decision made

The newspaper explains that, following reports of HSV’s early attempts to sign the midfielder permanently, Fabio Vieira has now made a decision of his own.

According to their information, he wants to stay at HSV Hamburg this summer. that’s good news, as the German club want to keep him as well. He was a key player for them this season, with seven goals and five assists in 29 games in the Bundesliga.

The bad news is that Hamburg and Arsenal are ‘far apart’ in their price expectations. It’s unclear at this moment in time whether an agreement will be reached.

The German side have an option to sign Vieira for €22m but they won’t be paying that. Sport Witness covered a recent report indicating they want to sign him for a fraction of that price.

Arsenal are convinced that they can get more, though. They’re convinced a Premier League club would pay that price after paying €35m themselves four years ago. A recent report indicated they’re already offering him around elsewhere.

Arsenal want €10-15m

Now Abendblatt reports that while HSV are only willing to pay a single-digit million sum, Arsenal want between €10-15m. The Gunners think that’s fair despite Vieira only having a year left on his deal at the Emirates.

While HSV really want to sign the midfielder permanently, they would have to push themselves to their financial limits. In fact, they’d potentially have to go beyond them.

According to Abendblatt, board member Eric Huwer is known for his financial prudence. He recently stated that any move would depend on Fabio Vieira wanting to stay. Now that’s been made clear, the pressure is on them to make it work.

Vieira, for his part, is not talking to anyone else. But his agents are exploring the German market. And the player would like a decision to be made by the beginning of July. So, the pressure is on HSV to work out what their financial limits are.
