Liverpool have reached an agreement in principle to sign Andoni Iraola according to Fabrizio Romano.

It marks the latest decisive move from the club’s hierarchy following the shock decision to part ways with Arne Slot after just two seasons in charge.

Slot’s reign brought that long‑awaited 20th league title but also a hugely disappointing follow‑up campaign, and Liverpool’s owners have clearly decided that a fresh voice and a more aggressive style are needed to get the project back on track.

The outgoing Reds boss wrote an open letter to fans this week having not had a chance to say goodbye at Anfield on the final day.

It was reported on Monday that formal talks had already taken place – and it appears those negotiations have borne fruit very quickly.

Taking to X, the Italian journalist reported:

“Liverpool reach agreement in principle to appoint Andoni Iraola as new manager, here we go! Exclusive story from Saturday, 100% confirmed: Arne Slot left and Iraola will lead Liverpool project, as expected. Talks advanced over last 48h and deal in place.”

During the 2025/26 campaign, Iraola steered the south‑coast side to a historic Europa League berth, overseeing a club‑record Premier League haul of 57 points.

Under his guidance, Bournemouth have transitioned from relegation survivors into a fearless, front‑foot outfit, regularly unsettling the division’s elite and taking points off the traditional top six.

For a club desperate to rediscover its spark and identity after a turbulent year, Iraola’s impending arrival could be the statement of intent that signals the start of a new chapter at Anfield.
