After conquering academy football and picking up the Premier League 2 Player of the Season award, it doesn’t look as if Shim Mheuka will be a part of Xabi Alonso’s squad.
Shim Mheuka enjoyed a truly sensational 2025/26 campaign, establishing himself as the crown jewel of Chelsea’s academy. The 18-year-old captained the Under-21 side to a Premier League 2 title, finishing the campaign as the top scorer, netting 18 goals and providing one assist in just 19 appearances.
His prolific year featured two hat-tricks, including a treble against reigning champions Manchester City on the opening day.
Mheuka’s academy dominance did not go unnoticed at senior level. The teenager continued to bridge the gap to the first team, featuring in domestic cup squads and notably coming off the bench in Chelsea’s 4-0 FA Cup victory against Hull City in February, followed by a Premier League cameo against Tottenham.

Shim Mheuka won’t be a part of Chelsea’s squad for next season
According to Simon Johnson of The Athletic, Shumaira Mheuka looks like he will be getting first-team football elsewhere.
After being named the Premier League 2 Player of the Season, he is deemed ready to get his first loan.
Sadly for Mheuka, Xabi Alonso has plenty of options in Chelsea’s front line. Returning loanee Nicolas Jackson is open to staying after a successful spell at Bayern Munich.
He will compete with the versatile Joao Pedro and physical presence Liam Delap, who both joined last summer. Meanwhile, Spanish prospect Marc Guiu could also leave on loan.
DISCUSS: Jarrod Bowen is a better signing than Rafael Leao…
Chelsea have been linked with both this summer.
A loan makes sense given Chelsea’s situation
Following a fractured season that saw Chelsea bring in multiple managers and finish a disappointing 10th, Xabi Alonso steps into a high-pressure, toxic environment where he must hit the ground running.
Given the immediate demand for results and Stamford Bridge, Alonso simply cannot afford to gamble on a developing teenager like Shim Mheuka in the striker role.
With an established senior option like Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, and a returning Nicolas Jackson all fighting for minutes, sanctioning a loan move for the 18-year-old is the only logical choice.
