A current and former Newcastle United player were involved in Sweden’s defeat to Norway.
Elanga lined up in a front two alongside Club Brugge’s Gustaf Nilsson before being one of seven changes at half-time.
Sweden trailed 3-0 following a brace from Crystal Palace striker Jorgen Strand Larsen and a goal from RB Leipzig winger Antonio Nusa before former Magpies’ striker Alexander Isak pulled one back on the hour mark.
Alexander Isak scores first goal for Sweden since leaving Newcastle United
And in scoring, Isak looked more like the player Newcastle sold to Liverpool last summer for a British record £130million.
Receiving the ball around 50 yards out from goal, the 26-year-old drove into the box and showed good skill to cut inside of Sondre Langas before his shot deflected off the Derby County full-back and over Sevilla goalkeeper Orjan Nyland.
It was only the fifth goal Isak has scored since joining the Reds following an injury-hit campaign.
Having gone on strike at Newcastle to help force his move to Anfield, Isak struggled for match fitness before suffering a leg fracture after scoring his third goal for the club in a 2-1 win at Tottenham Hotspur in December.
Isak spent around four months on the sidelines, eventually returning in April. Despite lingering concerns regarding his fitness, the 26-year-old has been named in Graham Potter’s World Cup squad.
Sweden next host Greece in Stockholm on Thursday evening in their final warm-up game before the tournament kicks off in North America.
Potter’s side face Tunisia in their opening match before going up against the Netherlands and Japan as they look to progress into the knockout stages.
Anthony Elanga hoping to have a positive World Cup
And like Isak, Elanga will be hoping to have a positive tournament and return to Newcastle full of confidence having struggled in his debut campaign following his £55million switch from Nottingham Forest.
Elanga netted just three goals and provided one assists but Magpies’ head coach Eddie Howe is backing the 24-year-old to come good next season.
Howe said: “Anthony had a really strong year last year for Nottingham Forest, a lot of goals, a lot of assists, a lot of goal contributions. We obviously came up against him a few times and I thought he was always a really strong performer against us, gave us problems in those games.
“He's obviously come to us and I think he's had some really good games for us. Obviously, there have been some games in there where he's found it a little bit more difficult, as every player would.
“I still believe the best is very much yet to come for Ant here. I think he's got some outstanding qualities that we really value and we really want in the team, but there'll be an element of frustration, I'm sure, for him that he hasn't shown his consistent best throughout the season.
“But as I said, players take different times to settle, different times to get into a full understanding of what we ask them to do.
“Again, he's a player that looks like he's benefiting from full-team training at the moment and I'm really confident that next season he'll have a really great year.”
