Celtic, Liverpool and Scotland legend Kenny Dalglish has revealed he is currently undergoing cancer treatment.
Dalglish confirmed the news in a statement posted to Instagram on Tuesday, explaining that an accidental social media post had made the matter public sooner than intended.
Dalglish, now 75, remains one of the most revered figures in British football.
During an illustrious playing career, he won nine major honours with Celtic, lifting four league titles, four Scottish Cups and a League Cup before making the move to Liverpool in 1977.

His legacy at Anfield is unmatched. Dalglish won three European Cups and eight league titles as a player, later adding further success as manager. He also remains Scotland’s most-capped men’s international, representing his country 102 times.
Confirming his diagnosis, Dalglish said:
“As my inadvertent social media post has indicated, I am currently undergoing treatment for cancer. Unlike my mobile phone use, the treatment is going well.
“Ideally, this would have remained private because that’s the way it should be, but my useless technology skills have forced my hand.
“Obviously I did not mean to make this matter public so I would appreciate it if the privacy of my family and myself are respected.
“As ever, thank you to the wonderful medical staff who have shown incredible care and discretion, not just for me but for many, many others. They are a credit to themselves.”
Even in difficult circumstances, Dalglish’s trademark humour shines through, with the former Celtic forward making light of his own social media mishap while offering reassurance that treatment is progressing positively.
Few figures command the respect Dalglish does across the game. From Glasgow to Liverpool and beyond, his contribution to football has left a lasting mark on generations of supporters.
The thoughts of everyone connected with Celtic will be with Kenny and his family as he continues his treatment.
We wish him a full and speedy recovery.
