Chelsea have a shortlist of “at least 10 names” heading into the summer transfer window, according to reports.

Writing in the Transfer DealSheet column for The Athletic, journalist Simon Johnson said that manager Xabi Alonso and the recruitment team have a sizeable number of targets.

However, he only mentions two players by name – Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers and Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate.

Rogers’ versatility is seen as a big plus and he is someone they have kept tabs on for several years. However, the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United are also keen on securing his services.

Is a move for Konate a genuine possibility?

It was confirmed by Liverpool at the weekend that the France international will leave Anfield when his contract expires at the end of this month.

Reports in France have suggested that Chelsea, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are Konate’s three main suitors in Europe.

Johnson says that a “gentle enquiry” for the 27-year-old has been made, which does indicate that a free transfer can’t be completely ruled out.

Who else could Chelsea sign?

Recruiting a starting centre-back is deemed a top priority for Alonso, and the likes of Brighton’s Jan Paul van Hecke and Nottingham Forest’s Murillo have been mentioned as potential options in recent months.

A replacement for Marc Cucurella may be needed, with Atletico Madrid heavily linked with the player. Sporting Lisbon’s Maxi Araujo and Newcastle’s Lewis Hall are two possible targets

Bournemouth’s Alex Scott and Stuttgart’s Angelo Stiller have been suggested as midfielders who could be brought in, while the likes of Bologna’s Jonathan Rowe, FC Cologne’s Said El Mala and Barcelona’s Ferran Torres could be signed to strengthen the front three.
