Marc Cucurella is exploring his options to leave Chelsea this summer, with the Spain international open to a move away from Stamford Bridge amid growing interest from several top European clubs, according to reports from The Athletic.
The 27-year-old left-back is under contract until 2028, having signed an extension last year, but sources indicate CHELSEA would not stand in his way if a suitable offer arrives.
Cucurella’s future has become one of the key talking points of the Blues’ summer rebuild following a disappointing 2025–26 campaign that saw the club miss out on European qualification and undergo further structural changes.
Atlético Madrid are currently understood to be leading the race for the defender. The La Liga side have already made contact with Cucurella’s representatives and view him as a priority target as they look to strengthen at left-back under Diego Simeone. Atlético’s ability to proceed without needing to sell players first is considered a major advantage in negotiations.
Barcelona and Real Madrid are also monitoring the situation. A return to Barcelona would carry emotional weight for Cucurella, who came through La Masia but never made a senior appearance for the Catalan club. However, Barcelona would likely need to offload a defender before making a formal move, while Real Madrid’s level of interest remains more exploratory at this stage.
Despite the uncertainty, incoming Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso is said to have made efforts to keep Cucurella, contacting the player directly and viewing him as part of his plans for next season. However, internal assessments at Stamford Bridge suggest the club may also be open to reshaping the squad, with competition emerging from younger options in the same position.
Cucurella joined CHELSEA from Brighton in 2022 for a fee that could rise to £62 million and has since become a regular starter, featuring in both domestic and international competitions. His performances this season, combined with Chelsea’s broader squad overhaul, have placed him firmly in the centre of transfer speculation.
While no formal bid has yet been accepted, the situation is expected to develop quickly as the summer window opens, with multiple clubs now in active contact and the player increasingly receptive to a new challenge abroad.
